5 posts · Joined 2019. #1 · Feb 23, 2020. 2014 Passat with 83k miles, transmission shifting problem after driving 18-20 miles it starts to shift hard between 1 & 2 gear. dealer said Camshaft magnetic sensor, that was replaced BUT did not fix the shifting problem. Now dealer wants $5400 to replace Transmission.
I have a 2002 VW Passat 1.8T front wheel drive automatic transmission. No transmission problem prior to this incident. Went to pick up engine oil and oil filter and left cousin to drain engine oil and later found out he drained the transmission fluid without me knowing until I drove the car about a block down the street and the transmission
I was told from a VW mechanic that are particular model of Passat(1.8L Turbo Automatic) has a sealed transmission case. Being the reason there is no dipstick for checking the transmission and actually nowhere to fill transmission fluid either. Other then a small over flow valve om transmissions ass end.
Posted on August 16, 2008. Friday morning I got into the family car (1998 VW Passat with manual transmission) and, depressing the clutch, started the engine. The car rocked backwards (I normally leave the gearshift in reverse when parked, plus the parking break was on), the engine died, and the clutch petal stayed on the floor (not good!).
Tiptronic Performance Mods. In the summer of 2002, discussions occured at Club B5 regarding various options that could be enabled on Tiptronic transmissions: an undocumented sport mode and a semi-documented modification of how the transmission behaves in Tiptronic mode. Original contributors included club members Rusty, Pass-Variant and vw18t.
Manual transmission failure. Bought my 99 Passat (2.8, 5 speed) last year with about 75,000 miles on it. Had to replace a few things: axle (CV joint), rear brakes and rotors but overall it's been a good caar. Even took it on a 5,000 mile trip to visit the family during the holidays.
